Forum rules
« on: February 14, 2014, 09:57:28 AM »
To keep this forum nice for everyone, we have some rules:
  • No spamming or advertising
    • Links to forums that only exist because you want to have a forum, and/or copy boards that already exist on tOLP/Distractionware (except for boards like General Discussion), may count as unwanted advertising. If you want to link to a forum that is unrelated to VVVVVV, tOLP, etc., or that is specifically for development of a certain VVVVVV level/project for example, then it's probably fine to post.
  • Please keep everything appropriate
    • NSFW (Not Safe For Work) text/links should be marked as such (preferably in spoiler tags), NSFW images are not to be posted.
    • No excessive swearing
    • Nothing illegal
    • This is not the place to promote racism, violence or suicide, or to send other overly offensive content.
  • Don't be rude, a jerk or annoying to others.
    • No trolling, flaming or personal attacks
    • If you know someone hates a certain thing, then don't use it just to troll that person
  • No useless posts which don't have any value even when considered off-topic (like a post containing only "text" in a serious topic). An exception is the Nonsense board.
    • Don't post just a quote of the post above yours without adding anything. If you want to say you agree to a post, please use some text instead of just quoting a post. There's no problem with quoting a previous post to remind someone of it though!
    • Even though Nonsense is Nonsense, it's not a place to spam. Posts that are completely senseless will probably get deleted.
  • If you're bumping a topic, make sure it's useful and relevant to the topic. Don't uselessly bump old topics because you're on a bumping spree.
    • If someone makes a useful and relevant post that bumps a topic, please don't go off-topic and post about how old the topic was. Also check this post. When in doubt, just report the post and it will, or will not, be dealt with.
  • If someone requests to be taken out of a forum game/CYOA, then they shouldn't be included anymore, at least not in further posts.
  • Account and profile rules:
    • One forum account is enough (for one person). Useless alts will be banned or deleted. (But if you forget your password and you cannot use the "Forgot your password?" option for some reason, then feel free to make a temporary account to be able to PM me, then I'll reset the password of your main account)
    • Don't share your account with someone else. If, for example, you want to let your friend post, he/she can make a separate account for it because otherwise it can be too confusing.
    • Don't impersonate others
    • Don't change your username to something unrecognizable with several others. If one person suddenly has a completely different name and avatar okay, people can find out who you are. If around 5 people do it at the same time, not as much.
    • Please don't make your signature higher than around 250px. If needed, you can make your signature smaller by using [spoiler] tags. You won't be warned/banned for having a signature that is too large unless you have a gigantic signature on purpose and/or change it back every time if your signature is put in a spoiler. The signature will automatically get a scrollbar if it's higher than 300 pixels, but note that this is only really a safeguard.
    • Do not circumvent bans. Your remaining ban time will get doubled every time you do so, and may be further increased depending on your actions.

These rules apply to all boards (except where otherwise stated), and can be updated at any time. The forum staff is not responsible for anything that gets posted by members. Failure to comply with these rules may result in a warning or a (post)ban, depending on the severity of the offense. Most of the time it will take serious offenses to get banned, though. If anything happens that isn't covered by these rules, we will do what we deem necessary.

If you have any questions about these rules, yours might be answered here.

Have fun :viridian:

Note for people who view the stats later: No, the massive decrease in activity after these rules were posted was not due to the rules, but due to unfortunate downtime, back in the days when we were still on unreliable hosting.

New rule as of now: Don't post just a quote of the post above yours without adding anything. If you want to say you agree to a post, please use some text instead of just quoting a post.

The rules have been updated a bit, these are the changes:
  • 7a has been changed a bit, the part about making a temporary alt account if you forget your password was written when the tOLP forum had no way to send emails, so I added a part about the "Forgot your password?" option
  • Added that signatures get a scrollbar at 300px but that it's only a safeguard in 7e
  • Added 7f: Do not circumvent bans. Your remaining ban time will get doubled every time you do so, and may be further increased depending on your actions.

The rules have been updated, mostly to reflect things that were already policy/common practice for some time but hadn't yet been put into the rules. These are the changes:
  • Added rule 1a about links to other forums.
  • Added rule 2d: This is not the place to promote racism, violence or suicide, or to send other overly offensive content.
  • Removed "misspelling" from 3b for being overly specific
  • Added clarification to 4a: There's no problem with quoting a previous post to remind someone of it though!
  • Added rule 4b: Even though Nonsense is Nonsense, it's not a place to spam. Posts that are completely senseless will probably get deleted.
  • Added rule 5a: If someone makes a useful and relevant post that bumps a topic, please don't go off-topic and post about how old the topic was. Also check this post. When in doubt, just report the post and it will, or will not, be dealt with.
