VVVVVV development editor
« on: 17 Nov 2015, 15:29 (8 years and 0 months ago) »
Yeah, towers wouldn't work in custom levels. Can't see that changing at this point! :victoria:

I wonder if terry is going to release HIS level maker to public.

You mean the one I used for developing the game? Believe me, the one in VVVVVV is much, much better!

Could we have it anyway? It would be nice to see what you had to work with when developing the game.

Lollers will devour you

It'd be kinda like Ved. (Another 3rd party editor but still cool)

It isn't third party if it is made by Terry.  ;)

That would be pretty difficult :victoria: It was hooked into the project directories of the game, and there was a lot of basic stuff that you had to recompile to do (like change "zone" from "warpzone" to "lab", or whatever).

In fact, I just looked, and it was worse than that, heh. I actually just forked the editor for each stage because I was lazy. Sometimes I ended up reimplementing a feature in one fork and not in others, so technically there are 10 different versions of the editor:

It's more like a not-as-advanced Make and Play Edition.

I think the only big issue with Ved will be that you won't be able to directly test levels by hitting enter, you'd be able to generate a save to start wherever you want, but you have to make sure yourself that VVVVVV is booted and go to the levels menu to start playing your level (from the Ved-generated save).

Eh, sure, what the hell, why not! I've attached the source code. Have fun! :)

I'll stop highjacking this thread now, sorry Dav

No, this is the editor used for Space Station 2. This editor is only interesting from a historical perspective (if that), it almost certainly won't give us any new capabilities.

Yeah, to be totally clear, you can't make anything useful with this. Nothing! It exports levels as source code, so it's not even compatible with the current version of VVVVVV.

I spent a couple of hours making a mess trying to get the map editor compiled and working and it seems like I'm very close:

Starting debug gives me this

Time to mess about with the paths a bit. At least I managed to get a window :shrug2:
