Editor Changing?

This doesn't really have to do with VVVVVV, but how hard do you think it'd be to convert Ved into an external editor for You Have to Win the Game? Just cause the original one isn't that good.

dude
you have to win the game has a custom engine built from the ground up with no custom support
everything in it is completely differently programmed from vvvvvv, and would not be supported in Love.

yeah, tho i talked to him on flockmod and he said it'd be possible but would require a lot of changing.

I wouldn't say anything about it if I hadn't gotten a general idea of how it worked, and that's why I asked him to tell me about the level structure first.

What actually doesn't make sense to me is the claim that it "would not be supported in Love". Why not?

It doesn't matter what language the engine is written in, how do you think I made an editor for VVVVVV?

That's basically saying that VVVVVV had to have been made in LOVE, right?

P.S. it wasnt

I don't know a whole lot about YHTWTG, but I know this much: The biggest obstacle would be how the actual level data is structured. You'd probably be able to recycle a lot of Ved's interface code, but loading and saving would have to be redone.

There's a .gam file for the level info, and a .xml file with the roomnames, that are seperate.
A lot of the level data has been removed to fit the character limit, but it's literally just hex and computer code when opened in other editors. All the level editor really does is add tiles, and all of the entities and whatnot have to be manually inserted into the seperate files respectively. You can't modify the tile graphics and data either, and there are also special tiles like the checkpoint tiles, start point tiles, auto randomize tiles, and automatic animation tiles. It's incredibly different from VVVVVV.

it's not like I don't want a better editor but the existing one is great and not that hard to use
if you really want a better one
I dunno
go beg the dev first, instead of wasting your time

the dev himself never really cared about the editor in the first place, it's unlikely he'd go back and add that much content onto it now that he's moved on to porting gunmetal arcadia to consoles
plus the editor as it is has the whole issue with not knowing the native resolution so the tile placing is somewhat off
