Auto-pruning of Nonsense
« on: 20 Apr 2014, 11:32 (9 years and 10 months ago) »
In this board, topics are automatically removed when they haven't had any posts in 30 days.

Topics will not immediately be deleted permanently, they will be moved to the recycle bin where I then either delete them permanently, or move them to my archive if it's kind of noteworthy/a bit important or useful or something. So if you notice a topic was deleted and want it back, it's worth asking in this topic.

In about a week, I'll enable auto-pruning for the nonsense board, to save database space. That means topics with no activity in a certain amount of days will automatically be deleted every day.

I've been thinking about what the period of inactivity should be before topics are pruned, so what do you think?

Some more details: Topics will not immediately be deleted permanently, they will be moved to the recycle bin where I then either delete them permanently, or move them to my archive if it's kind of noteworthy/a bit important or useful or something. So if you notice a topic was deleted and want it back, it's worth asking.

Well, as you may have already noticed, the auto-prune has been disabled for some time. Maybe I should turn it back on.

There's 35 pages in the Nonsense Board, so I would assume not.

If you turn it on, up to 30 pages of posts could disappear. That's not something you should spring on everyone without any warning. There will be panic, especially if anything gets deleted.

I think we can safely delete Shortposter's early topics, but everything else should be kept for the time being until I have a chance to through it all. Maybe that's just me, but that's what I think.

“Nonsense” is just a fancy word for “shitposts” anyways.

This is literally Nonsense.

Why do you care so much about these posts?

Don't try to understand it, but I need Nonsense. It is my life and I cannot go a single day without it.

I think autopruning Nonsense would only lead to confusion.  Also, there's some really funny stuff in it.

The deleted posts would just end up in the recycle bin, don’t worry.
