Towers are not supported in custom VVVVVV levels, the only way that they could theoretically be made is by messing with the flags out of bounds to modify stuff anywhere in RAM, for that you'd need to know exactly where in memory all the tower stuff is (and we're talking about compiled/machine code VVVVVV here) and hope for consistent behavior... I don't see it happening.

Someone with a lot of free time on their hands might be able to pull off something like this, but then using lots of script boxes that just set flags out of range as you walk through the rooms :P

But we digress, so I'm gonna say α36 has been released!

...Oh and a while back I found out that a simple Google search for "tolp2.nl" lead to a semi-hidden page for Ved as the third search result... (I suppose the Idea Informer made it findable anyways because it links to it.) So as of now, the page with alpha versions is fully public: http://tolp2.nl/vedalpha/. Besides, Ved is now no longer as early in development as it was when I first started releasing alphas (the first couple of alphas I released had a "placeholder main menu" where you had to enter the state number to get anywhere (6 for loading a level, 1 for the editor, 8 for the saving screen, etc), only worked on Windows, couldn't create new levels, only supported manual tile placement but didn't work well with the tileset, et cetera).

To those who haven't tried Ved alpha before: enjoy! :viridian:

I wonder if terry is going to release HIS level maker to public.
But if you mess with the flags your VVVVVV might crash or corrupt...

Yeah, towers wouldn't work in custom levels. Can't see that changing at this point! :victoria:

I wonder if terry is going to release HIS level maker to public.

You mean the one I used for developing the game? Believe me, the one in VVVVVV is much, much better!

I've split off the posts that were only about the VVVVVV development editor to this topic, feel free to discuss the development editor there :viridian:

K. Also I like that Ved can freely create Polar Dimensions. Without editing the file.

Thanks for saying, I've undeleted the file from Dropbox (I just checked and noticed it was in the recycle bin for whatever reason, I probably misclicked earlier)

I am pretty sure that even if Terry were to release his level editor, that it would "compile" levels into Flash scripts, and thus completely unusable more than for fun experimentation.

It's much less intuitive and more "lowlevel", but I guess that is a given since it was never supposed to be used by end users. E.g. I would assume things like:
- no documentation
- "Direct Mode" being the only means of editing
- assuming that you have the VVVVVV 1.x source code
- making a few assumptions about the style of editing, and breaking horribly if you don't follow a certain style, naturally, undocumented
- even if Terry were to release it (and the parts of source necessary to make it work), he would do so under the assumptions that he isn't going to get a million questions about it afterwards
All these should contribute against releasing the "real" level editor.

These are all guesses though, but if I were to make a game like this myself and make a level editor for it, my own editor would probably end up like that.

Maybe I'm wrong though.
He actually released it (I split this topic), but I couldn't get it to run properly. Possibly due to incompatible versions of zlib or loadpng or something.

Ah, and given his commenting, it is just like what I thought, almost (I actually assumed that the editor was in Flash and not functional for 2.0, and that the levels were merely "ported" to 2.0 when creating the C++ version). :)

I'll see if I can make it functional, for curiousity reasons.
